Rebecca Ray is the officer for the Worthless Check Unit.  She is responsible for collection of checks that have been returned unpaid either by insufficient funds, stop payment or closed account.

The mission of the Worthless Check Unit is to prevent bad check losses to Blount County citizens by collection of bad checks written for goods and services.  This service is free and is backed by the Judicial System of Alabama.  Since being in office, the administration of Tommy Rountree has collected over $500,000.00

If a check is not honored by the bank, take the following steps for collection:
1.Add a service charge of $30.00 to the face value of the check.
2.Call the person and try to have them bring you the money.
3.Fill out a NOTICE TO THE MAKER form and make a copy.

(Printable Notice and Procedures accessible below.  On a closed account bring check only.)

Mail a letter letting the maker know the check will be turned over to the Worthless Check Unit unless it is paid within 10 days. This letter must be sent via certified mail. After 10 days if you receive no response you may file the check with our Unit on open accounts.
